Biography

Grenada, West Indies-born and Brooklyn, New York-raised Kurt “The Sniper” Arnold began photographing people at age 10. Never leaving home without a camera for over 15 years, he developed a fascination for capturing distinctive facial expressions; deep thoughts; emotions; body language; and movement. Although he enrolled at the New York Institute of Photography in 1996-1997, it was on the streets of New York City that he honed his craft and developed candid street photography as his standard practice.

Within this form of artistic expression, Kurt produced a collection of “Snipe Shots” which he describes as “visual narratives depicting human nature through candid photography.” The photographs are poetic images stemming from reality — scenes realised through capturing the natural state of people as if performed by actors on the big stage, which is “the city.” The backdrop of these scenes are compiled in his “Cityscapes” collection.

“The Spirit of New York” is Kurt’s first solo exhibition, which showcases his collection of Snipe Shots and Cityscapes captured throughout New York City. It was first presented in 2009 by Blender Gallery in Sydney, Australia and has also been exhibited at the US Embassy in Canberra, Australia; Poliform’s showroom in Sydney; and is presently on partial display at Poliform’s showroom in Melbourne, Australia. It is intended to be hung in New York City in 2012 for local exhibition following the Sniper’s return home from abroad.

Presently on standby, Kurt’s next photographic exhibition will showcase his collection of Snipe Shots and Cityscapes captured throughout the Central Business District and Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, Australia, which is also intended to be hung in New York for its first official display to public.
